Althletes from 50 countries have registered for the 20th IAAF World Half Marathon Championships to take place in Kavarna, north-eastern Bulgaria.

The anniversary edition of the contest will take place on October 6, and is jointly organized by IAAF, the Bulgarian Athletic Federation and the Kavarna Municipality.

30 of the athletes registered for the World Half Marathon Championships participated in the marathon at the London 2012 Olympics.

The race in the small Bulgarian town on the Black Sea will be aired directly in 160 countries across the globe.

In 2010, Kavarna won the contest to host the championship, clashing on the final with New York.

The next 2014 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships will take place in Denmark's capital Copenhagen.
