The criminal police department in the northeastern French city of Metz, the administrative center of the department of Moselle, detained Saturday three Bulgarians after finding an ATM skimming device in their car.

The vehicle caught the attention of police officers because it had stopped to the side of the road with the warning lights on and there was smoke coming out of it.

After finding the electronic card-skimming device in the car, the police officers searched the hotel where the Bulgarians, who had arrived in France only recently, were staying.

The search of the premises yielded other skimmers, according to reports of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA), citing Le R?publicain Lorrain.

During the questionings, the three Bulgarians said they were visiting France as tourists.

The three were questioned and remanded in custody on Sunday.
