The Minister of Internal Security and Local Administration of Kenya, George Saitoti, has been killed in a helicopter crash.

bTV reports Sunday, citing local officials, that Saitoti and his deputy, Orwa Ojode, died when the aircraft went down in a forest west of the capital Nairobi. The helicopter burst into flames as it hit the ground.

The total number of fatalities is six. The cause of the crash remains unknown.

Saitoti, 66, a former vice-president, had been planning to run in a forthcoming presidential election.

He was on his way to a security meeting when his helicopter crashed.
