A mass fight with knifes, axes, and gas pistols erupted in broad daylight between two Roma families in the Bulgarian town of Vetovo, near the Danube city of Ruse on Friday.
The call alarming about a brawl at a supermarket in the center of Vetovo has been placed at 10:30 am on the 112 emergency hotline.
A police patrol car, dispatched immediately at the scene, found 5 wounded men. Eyewitnesses say they heard something sounding like firecrackers, and it was established later that the sounds came from gas pistols.
The police officers found out that four of the wounded men, ages 20, 21, 39, and 53, from two Roma families in the town, have taken part in the fight. A 28-year-old man was injured when trying to break it.
Four have been taken in the Ruse hospital after initially undergoing treatment at the local health room. Two were listed in the hospital and two were released on their own will and responsibility.
Locals say the reason for the brawl is a woman and long-lasting feuds between the clans.
