Send to KindleA contract killing in Bulgaria's capital Sofia is worth around BGN 10,000-15,000, according to information released by the police Thursday.
"Of course there are no fixed rates and we can only generalize from the experience we have gathered," commented Georgi Totkov, anti-murder unit head at the Sofia police directorate.
He mentioned recent cases that fell in the range BGN 10,000-15,000 range, or some EUR 5,000-8,000.
The Sofia police directorate also mentions that the financial and economic crisis has not produced a rise in the number of murders in the city.
Since the start of 2011, there have been 17 killings, in 15 of which the police has arrested suspects.
According to director Totkov, in Sofia there are no organized crime groups that have been specialized in contract killing.
"To the contrary, contractors are hiring ever more frequently inexperienced persons to act as hitmen," commented he.
In addition, Totkov said the practice for bringing in foreign citizens to carry out the murders is no longer popular.
