Galatasaray are interested in signing Manchester United's forward Dimitar Berbatov, the Turkish club's president Unal Aysal has confirmed.

However, Aysal has refuted Turkish media rumors that the unsettled Bulgarian striker is among the team's "sure" new signings.

"Berbatov is just one of the players we are following. It is too early for us to say what would happen during the winter transfer window. We will have more certainty in December," Galatasaray's president told the local Hurryiet daily on Monday.

Galatasaray currently have four or five strikers on their shortlist, Aysal further revealed.

On Tuesday, the Kanalturk TV channel reported that Berbatov is among the Turkish giants' "certain" new signings. According to Turkish websites, the Bulgarian hitman was to be sold to Galatasaray for EUR 8 M.
