The Deputy Chair of Bulgaria's far-right, nationalist Ataka party, Pavel Shopov, has withdrawn his proposal for changes in the team of the "anti-Mafia" Parliamentary Committee.
On several occasions, the Nationalists asked that their leader, Volen Siderov, fills in the Parliamentary Committee for the Fight against Corruption, Conflict of Interests and for Parliamentary Ethics. Committee's membership, and every time the proposal was rejected by the Members of the Parliament from the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party and some of the opposition's MPs.
Siderov's rejection stems from the incident in front of a downtown Sofia mosque where Ataka members and followers entered in a bloody altercation with praying Muslims.
After the second negative vote, the Ataka MPs decided to halt all their membership in all Parliamentary Committees until the issue is resolved.
The Parliamentary Anti-Corruption Committee is headed by Valentin Nikolov, one of the three MPs who left the Ataka formation after the Mosque accident. Nikolov is now reckoned as an independent Member of Parliament - and Ataka was trying to get its leader to replace him.
Siderov sees an alleged interference of US Ambassador in Sofia, James Warlick, in his rejection by the Parliament.
Parliamentary reporters inform Wednesday that Shopov has sent the withdrawal to the Speaker of the Parliament, Tsetska Tsacheva, but the motives listed in it remain unclear.
Also on Wednesday, the MPs voted on filling the membership of the Supreme Judicial Council from the Parliamentary quota.
The two names are Kiril Gogev and Nestor Nestorov, both nominated by the Independent MPs, Ventsislav Varbanov and Dimitar Kolev.
