Sting, the world renowned pop star, will perform with Sofia's Philharmonic Orchestra during his concert in the Bulgarian capital on June 7, which will feature symphonically re-orchestrated versions of some of his best known songs.
Sting has chosen to work with one of the most illustrious symphonic orchestras in Europe for the much awaited Sofia concert. The orchestra holds an important position in the cultural life of Bulgaria, in addition to its many recordings and concert tours abroad. It will most probably participate in Sting's Romania gig, too.
The concert, which will be staged at Sofia's Georgi Asparuhov Stadium, is one of the biggest events on the Bulgarian music scene this summer. Tickets cost BGN 80, 100, 150 and 200.
The gig is part of the 10th edition of the festival Arena Muzika, organized by Sofia Music Enterprises, which also featured Swedish pop duo Roxette. The concert will be also a part of Sting's ongoing and hugely successful Symphonicity Tour, which includes the musician's greatest hits with symphonic arrangement.
This will be the English rock legend's third concert in Bulgaria.
Ten years after his first concert in Bulgaria in 1996, about 20,000 people gathered in Nessebar at Bulgaria's seaside in June 1996 despite the crummy weather to see the rock legend live for the second time.
Sting surprised the audience with a medley of old hits. The rock dinosaur did not include any of his latest songs, but generously compensated the fans with favourites from his time with The Police.
Many Bulgarian singers joined the ranks of the Sting-lovers, along with Ice Skating Champions Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski. All 20,000 sang their hearts out throughout the two-hour-long Sting fest, going home with quite an adrenaline rush and a sore throat.
Warm-up band Fiction Plane, led by Sting's son Joe also managed to move the crowd with a harder version of daddy's style.
