Lothar Matthaeus, German football legend and current Bulgarian national team coach, said he will kick out some of its players, advising them to focus on their families instead of hoping to get called up again.
"Some of our players didn't play with passion. I know who they are, but I will not disclose their names now...They had better stay home and play with their wives and children instead of wasting their time in the team," he said, as cited by the Dnevnik daily.
Matthaeus's comment was inspired by Saturday's Euro 2012 qualifier between the Bulgarian national football team and Montenegro in Podgorica that ended in a 1:1 draw, which practically defeated Bulgaria's slim chances to advance.
Expectedly, the German coach admitted Bulgaria will fail qualify for the prestigious tournament, as it is lagging 6 points behind Group G leaders Montenegro and England with three games to go. However, he pointed out the team is young and has potential.
England and Montenegro now have 11 points; Bulgaria and Switzerland – 5 each; Wales is last with 0 points.
