Supporters and followers of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, staged Sunday a mock ceremony for the opening of the long-delayed Sofia waste plant.
The completion of the project to have a modern waste treatment facility near Sofia was promised by Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, but the plant is far away from materializing.
The Socialists' initiative was titled "Let's Cultivate GERB's Lies."
The participants gathered at the field, which is to be the construction site, with a Roma orchestra, a scale model of the plant, and the traditional bread and ribbon.
The ceremony was led by the BSP nomination for Mayor of Sofia, Georgi Kadiev.
"If you see this facility, it means you are gone as crazy as Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, if you don't see it, it means you are enemies of the cabinet because you harbor doubts you will be lied to once again," Kadiev proclaimed.
Surprisingly, Sofia City Hall councilmen from the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party, arrived in a car with a turned on siren, Darik radio reports.
They explained they came because the wished to refresh their colleagues' memory and accused them of sabotaging the project and causing the delay. Strong words were exchanged between GERB councilmen, Robert Yanakiev, and Nikolay Stoynev, and the BSP leader and former Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev.
After the ceremony, cold water was served as refreshment and the Socialists vowed to keep a slice of the bread and the ribbon and to send them to Borisov.
GERB leader Boyko Borissov reacted to the fall of the Zhelyazkov government during a live broadcast on his official Facebook page, following the mass protests across the country.
The government is making a second clumsy attempt to introduce the state budget.
