A chain reaction is feared to have started at the earthquake-hit Fukushima-1 NPP in Japan, but information as to its extent is scarce.

Radiation levels are reported to be rising, and to have reached many times the norm.

There is increased fear of a radioactive leaks, and Japanese PM Naoto Kan ordered the evacuation of all people living within 10 km of the NPP.

The reactors of the Fukushima NPP shut down automatically, after a monstrous 8.9 Richter tremor hit Friday.

However, one of the facilities at Fukushima is on flames, and smoke can be seen.

For the time being, scientists and experts say there is no ground to worry about a possible chain reaction, since there is not enough information what exactly is going on.

People have been working all night long trying to cool off the cores of the reactors.
