Tunisia's ousted president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has suffered a stroke and lapsed into a coma, according to reports quoted by French daily Le Monde.

This report comes only days after Monday Egyptian press and other news sources claimed Egyptian Hosni Mubarak, who resigned from office Friday, is gravely ill and has fallen into a coma.

Ben Ali chose to flee Tunisia January 14, facing tremendous popular protests, and received refuge in Saudi Arabia.

Reports now claim that he has been hospitalized in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

Due to security concerns, the former Tunisian president has been allegedly registered under a false name in the royal clinic.

26 January Tunisian Justice Minister Azhar Karoui Chebbi annonced that Tunisia has requested an international arrest warrant for its former president.
