A British national has been found frozen and helpless on the side of the road connecting Bulgaria's winter resort of Bansko and the village of Banya.

It is still unclear if the man has been a tourist or resides in Bulgaria, but he has been beaten, and, most likely, robbed.

A passing by driver noticed the man and called the emergency hotline 112 around 6:30 am. The Brit has been taken by ambulance to the emergency room in the nearby town of Razlog.  He has been unable to speak over the frostbite.

A female British citizen has been injured in another overnight Bansko incident – she suffered a broken nose during a bar fight and is listed at the Razlog hospital.

The police are probing both cases.

In mid-December, Bulgaria's Interior Ministry announced they are sending to the country's winter resorts police patrols whose members speaks up to three foreign languages.
