The prosecutor has charged five Bulgarian border policemen and four customs agents with asking bribes from foreign citizens, the Interior Ministry press center informs Saturday.

The nine were busted after a probe conducted by the "Internal Security" Directorate of the Interior Ministry, the Main Directorate "Border Police," and the Sofia City Prosecutor's office.

The probe established the State servants abused their authority to blackmail foreign citizens traveling transit through Bulgaria by asking them for bribes in EUR or USD.

Victims, who refused to pay, have been delayed from crossing the border without reason.
