Mayhem broke loose in Stockholm Thursday night in the wake of the 0:0 draw in the Europa League playoff between Swedish champion and cup holder AIK and Bulgarian Levski Sofia.

AIK hooligans attacked the Levski bus in front of Råsunda Stadium in Solna, Stockholm after the end of the game, throwing stones, bottles and other projectiles at hand.

Five from Levski – two players, a masseur, the press officer, and the club's owner Todor Batkov – were slightly injured in what media describe as violence unseen in recent years.

The windshield of the Levski bus was broken with a stone, but the delegation were nevertheless put on it and escorted to Stockholm airport by the Swedish police.

Batkov vowed to talk about the incident with UEFA's president Michel Platini, while UEFA delegate Georges Lüchinger, who himself was attacked, took full note of the deplorable events.

Friday Swedish paper Aftonbladet comes out with the title "AIK Can Be Thrown out of European Tournaments," quoting AIK senior officers who say to be fully aware of the fact.

The paper reports that the referees of the game also ended up amid the riots and had to flee back to the stadium.

It is unclear whether the return match, scheduled for next Thursday in Sofia, will be played out.
