The member of the Parliamentary Committee for control over the National State Security Agency (DANS), Kamen Kostadinov, has announced that checks will be performed on the agency and if they coincide with the accusations by the Bulgarian conservatives, the agency will suffer serious consequences.

On Sunday, the Bulgarian party "Order, Law nad Justice" (RZS) accused the National State Security Agency of dismissing qualified employees and hiring politicians' and magistrates' relatives as agents instead.

On Tuesday, Kostadinov, who is deputy chair of the ethnic Turkish party DPS and a member of the Parliamentary Committee for control over the National State Security Agency (DANS), has confirmed that the agency is undergoing a reform at the moment.

“There really are dismissals at the agency and optimizing of the staff. However, we will perform a check on the specific accusations by RZS. My expectation is that they will be groundless and only an attempt of attack against DANS,” Kostadinov said in an interview for the Bulgarian private TV channel Nova TV.

He explained that the Parliamentary Committee for control over DANS is performing detailed checks and the conclusions are made in consensus.

“We will check all the facts and circumstances. History shows that usually this kind of accusations are not serious. There are specific rules for career development in DANS and all the opportunities for relatives to work in the same department are excluded,” Konstantinov said.

He added that he does not believe that DANS would break these rules. However, he pointed out that if the accusations against the agency are true, the consequences will be serious.
