The Bulgarian Interior Ministry carried out Wednesday their latest special operation, codenamed “The Phone Operators.”

The operation took place in the wee hours in the regions of Plovdiv and Veliko Tarnovo.

6 people were arrested and are accused of large-scale phone scams in Plovdiv and adjacent areas where they called people telling them a loved one had been involved in a traffic accident and needs money.

The perpetrators collected BGN 15 000 through the scams.

2 of the detainees are said to be taxi drivers, who collected the money from the victims.
