Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov is expected to confer for the first time with European Council President Herman Von Rompuy during the second day of his working visits to Belgium and Luxembourg.

In Brussels, Parvanov will also meet European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, and with European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek.

At the European Parliament, he will also hold talks with three political group leaders - Joseph Daul of the European People's Party, Martin Schulz of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, and Guy Verhofstadt of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.

Bulgaria's President has repeatedly said that he hopes to discuss in Brussels issues of European significance, not ones that focus primarily on Bulgaria.

"The point in making this visit is not to speak about our problems at home, but to discuss issues that we all face,” Parvanov said.

The European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council have also refused to comment the topics on the agenda of their heads with the Bulgarian president, saying that the meetings come at the initiative of Sofia.
