A 53-year-old man, armed with a claw-hammer and knife went on a rampage in Plovdiv injuring several people.

The man has now been arrested and Plovdiv police confirmed that he had earlier been released from a mental clinic in the town.

The rampage started when on Monday morning the mental patient entered a goldsmith's shop on Hristo Botev Boulevard in the city center. He was waving his weapons and attempted to assault the shop assistant.

Later police received reports that the man had entered a shop on Ivan Vazov Street where he stabbed a 23-year-old saleswoman in the arm and chest. He then attacked a 30-year-old man by hitting him on the head. His rampage was stopped when police arrested him after he hit a 19-year-old woman on the head with a bag of stones.
