Russia plans to send back spent nuclear fuel from Bulgarian Nuclear Power Plant Kozloduy, Bulgarian National Radio reported. In November and December last year spent nuclear waste from Nuclear Power Plant’s Units 3 and 4 were sent to Russia for recycling. Following an inspection of all 6763 parts of units subject to radiation stockpiled in Zheleznogorsk, the Russian Agency for Nuclear Safety found that 96 of those from Kozloduy contain uninfolammable absorbents reported as potentially dangerous. Last year it was announced that the import of spent nuclear fuel could be stopped in case it turns out that Bulgaria sends dangerous elements. Energy Minister Milko Kovachev said he has not been informed about Russia’s plans to send back Kozloduy nuclear waste to Bulgaria.
