MPS: AFTER GENERAL ELECTIONS, WOMEN’S CHANCES TO JOIN POLITICS GREW

Women's chances for joining the political elite have increased since the general elections in June 2001, according to 75% of 62 MPs, interviewed by the National Public Opinion Centre.

45.3% attribute this trend to the breaking of stereotypes, and 37.7 % to the adoption of European and world standards. Women's chances for participation in politics have
decreased, according to 4.8% of the interviewed. Nothing has changed, according to 17.7%.

Women's political participation is by 62.9 % of the interviewed. They would vote for women running for elective offices. Women's participation in politics is not
favored by 3.2 % of the interviewed.

The majority of the incumbent female MPs would like women to be more broadly represented in all branches of power.

Female politicians most often lack enough time for their children, according to 63.9 % of the respondents. Also, women politicians cannot spare enough time for themselves, their husbands, friends and relatives.
