Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
Twenty-first day of protests in Bulgaria - from noon began gradual blockades in various parts of Sofia.
In parallel, there are actions blocking major roads in several cities in the country.
Protesters have traditionally gathered in front of the presidency. The calls are for people to bring tents, food and water because they have threatened to stay until their demands are met.
The blockades in Sofia began at noon. Minutes after 12 o'clock, protesters came out at the crossroads of Bulgaria and Ivan Geshov Boulevards and stopped the traffic.
There was tension between the people blocking the intersection and drivers trying to cross the boulevard. Despite police attempts to regulate traffic, some public transport in the area has also remained under blockade for some time.
The blockade of the crossroads grew into a procession. The demonstrators marched along Bulgaria Boulevard to the Five Corners and the Judicial Chamber.
The intersections in front of the Council of Ministers and the Rectorate were successively blocked, after which the procession stopped at Orlov Most.
At the same time, dissatisfied people began to gather in the triangle of power at noon. Another group of protesters blocked one lane on Alexander Malinov Boulevard in the Mladost district.
"We are not happy with the corruption, we are not happy with the scams, with the fact that over 2 million Bulgarians have fled abroad," said Svetoslav Traikov.
A few days ago, he took part in the action to stop the Sofia metro. He has been charged with complicity in hooliganism.
There were also protests in Varna and Ruse. The road between Kazanlak and Stara Zagora was blocked by two parallel car prosessions, which started from the two cities. In Plovdiv, a procession started from the Union Monument. In Ruse, the threat was to block the area around the Danube Bridge.
Protesters in Plovdiv marched through the city's main boulevards. After some of the demonstrators blocked the Asparuhov Bridge in Varna earlier, tonight the protesters gathered in front of the Municipality building.
"I want the state to triumph. I finally want the Bulgarian people as they are - smart and awake to come back here again and re-create the homeland, "said protesters.
In Burgas, the procession passed along the central pedestrian street.
Protesters sang the national anthem.
Stara Zagora and Kazanlak gathered for a joint protest. And then they went to the town of Gurkovo, where the passage of the Republic was blocked.
"I want a change in the whole status quo. I want an educational qualification for voting, I want electronic voting, "people said.
Protesters in Ruse blocked the entrance and exit of the Danube Bridge for about two hours./Nova TV
