Solar Fury: The Geomagnetic Storm of 2024
A potent geomagnetic storm, the most formidable in two decades, has struck, instigated by successive coronal mass ejections from the Sun
This year's average monthly temperature in February is expected to be around and above the norm. In most of the country, the lowest temperatures during the month will be between minus 13 and minus 8 degrees, and the highest temperatures will be between 14 and 19 degrees. This was announced by the meteorological prognostic sector at the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, Marta Popova. It predicts that the monthly sum of rainfall will be around the norm.
The average monthly temperature in February in North Bulgaria and in the highlands in Bulgaria is from 0 to 2 degrees, in Southern Bulgaria and the Black Sea - between 2 and 5 degrees, and in the mountains - between minus 8 and minus 3 degrees.
The average monthly rainfall in the plains is between 30 and 50 liters per square meter, in the mountains - between 40 and 70 liters per square meter, and for the Rila-Rhodope massif and Strandja is 60 to 100 liters per square meter.
At the beginning of February it will be warmer than usual, especially in the early days of Eastern Bulgaria, where a moderate southwest wind will blow. The probability of rainfall by the middle of the ten-day period will be low.
In the second half of the period there will be precipitation, in the flat part of the country mainly rain, in the mountains - snow. Temperatures will drop, but will remain higher than the average for the month.
In the second and third ten days of February temperatures will fall further and will fluctuate around the average for the months. The dynamics of the atmosphere will be preserved and the weather will be variable, with frequent overheating. In the flat part of the country there will be rain and snow, but the probability of a permanent snow cover is small, Mariana Popova predicts.
