Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev said on Sunday his institution will cancel some "less relevant" public procurement procedures to ensure a more efficient spending and transparency.

Nenchev spoke to private NOVA TV broadcaster after two weeks in which Bulgarian Prime minister Boyko Borisov announced the government was terminating a number of tenders at his request, citing suspicions of opacity and links of companies that had won the tenders to controversial MP Delyan Peevski.

The Defense Minister made clear there were now "suspicious" tenders at the ministry, but made sure he would seek to manage them more efficiently and take them under his direct control.

He added he was yet to inform over the following days his colleagues in Turkey, Greece and Serbia of legal changes adopted by the Bulgarian Parliament that allow and could lead to participation of the national army in border protection, in light of a possible increase in the influx of migrants.
