Unconfirmed reports have it that Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has been placed under house arrest Wednesday, after protests against him came to a head in the past weeks.
The information is reported by Russian agency ITAR-TASS, quoting Egyptian TV channel Al Hayat.
Wednesday the Egyptian army has received orders to use arms "to defend the people and the protesters."
The order comes as a result of a priorly issued ultimatum for an end of the political crisis by Wednesday.
Millions have taken to the streets of major Egyptian cities in what some called the largest rallies in human history, to protest what they see as the wrong, pro-Islamist direction that Morsi is taking Egypt.
