Adoption Secrecy Has Been Dropped in Bulgaria
The National Assembly adopted in the second reading changes to the Family Code, with which the secrecy of adoption is removed and the work of the national system for full adoption is improved
7-year-old Kansas girl Olivia Heaston is making and selling bracelets to help her parents adopt two Bulgarian children.
Olivia's parents are in the process of adopting two children from Bulgarian orphanages, The Wichita Eagle says. In May, she came up with the idea to sell bracelets to raise money to help pay for the adoptions.
"We first pulled out beads and then I said maybe I could make bracelets and get money," Olivia said, as cited by The Wichita Eagle. "Then we had the idea to make them because they're in a very bad orphanage because people don't take care of them."
So far, Olivia's bracelets have raised more than USD 2,000, part of the USD 10,000 the family has raised. The cost of the adoptions is USD 30,000.
One of the two Bulgarian children, Sam, is 22 pounds and has a genetic disease that causes parts of the body to grow at different speeds. The other, Sophie, has severe scoliosis and spina bifida.
