Representatives of 12 Korean tech companies have arrived on a five-day visit to Bulgaria to seek opportunities for investing in the growing technology sector of the Balkan state. Delegation head Charm Lee told Reuters thatKorean companies had been attracted mostly by Bulgaria`s highly professional and relatively inexpensive IT experts. `There is lots of outsourcing going there and there are lots of possibilities which we want to explore,` said Lee who is chief executive director of Internet consultancy Charmsmart. He said Korean companies have been particularly interested in opening subsidiaries in Bulgaria and making greenfield investment for manufacturing high tech products. `It would be useful to produce high value added items and work on IT solutions in Bulgaria, targeting the European Union and the Balkan states,` said Lee. At present Korea ranks 15-th among Bulgaria`s trade partners. Trade turnover between the two states totalled $12.88 million in the first half of 2001.
