Cracking Down on Improper Parking: Sofia Introduces Park Patrols
In Sofia, authorities have introduced the first-ever park patrol equipped with state-of-the-art technology
More lights will be installed in the Borisova Gradina in the Bulgarian capital Sofia's downtown, the city's Mayor, Yordanka Fandakova, has reiterated.
The new lights are supposed to cover the park's central alley as well as several other alleys. Additionally, cameras will be installed at several locations within the park, Fandakova has said, according to the Dnevnik daily.
The Sofia City Hall has been officially the owner of the park since Wednesday.
Last week the Sofia municipal council voted a proposal to begin managing 32.9 hectares of the park with 24.9 of them being park lands and another 8 inside the dendrarium. The Deputy Mayor, Maria Boyadzhiyska, said then that the City Hall provides BGN 600 000 for the maintenance of the park.
The park's overhaul comes in the heels of two recent cases in which the dead bodies of two women have been found in the park.
The body of 28-year-old Bulgarian Yana Krasteva was discovered on July 10. Forensic experts have come to the conclusion that the young woman was raped, beaten and strangled. Two men were arrested in connection with the case, but one has been released over lack of evidence.
A week later, late Friday evening, July 15, police discovered in the Perlovska River in the Borisova Gradina the body of another woman. The cause of death and her identity remain unknown.
