Bulgarian Muslims Urge for Minister Resignation
The Bulgarian Muslims have accused the Minister without portfolio of working against the Muslim society and have called for his resignation, the regional Mufti Office in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv has announced.
Mufti Osman Hilmi said Friday that Muslims in Plovdiv believe that Minister Bozhidar Dimitrov, who is responsible for the minorities in the country, is not doing his job, but is working towards the division of the Muslim society.
Hilmi also said that Muslims from the region have gathered for another protest against the reinstatement of Nedim Gendzhev as the Muslim religious leader in Bulgaria.
After Friday's unprecedented prayer, more than 100 00 Muslims have protested against the decision of Bulgaria's Supreme Court of Cassation from May 12 to reinstate Gendzhev.
“Next week, our representatives will meet in Brussels the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, in order to inform him about the tension among the Muslim society in the country,” Mufti Hilmi said.
The protesters also do not support the registration of Ashim Asan as a Chair of the Muslim Board of Trustees.
“Asan has also submitted documents in the municipality for the registration of Ali Sadak as a regional Mufti, which is illegal,” Hilmi said.
The protest has been supported by the former Chief Mufti Selim Mehmed, according to whom Nedim Gendzhev is selling the properties of the Muslim society in Bulgaria.
