The River Kamchia in East Bulgaria has started flooding due to heavy rain, the Director of Civil Protection in Varna, Vladimir Ivanov, reported Monday.
Ivanov added that fishing villages at the mouth of the River had been affected and that civil protection teams were assessing the situation.
The Prohorovo Dam near Nova Zagora in Central Bulgaria is also reported to be in a critical situation with a dangerously high water level after the heavy rain that swept across the country Sunday.
In Sofia snow has again paralyzed parts of the Bulgarian capital on Monday after several centimeters of snow fell over night. Meanwhile, after the emergency situation on Sunday in South East Bulgaria due to flooding of the River Tundzha, civil defense teams drained areas over night in the Elhovo and Yambol regions and reported that the water level had now dropped by over 10 cm.
