Bulgaria's right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) party is demanding from PM Borisov to withdraw his support for Meglena Plugchieva's EBRD bid.

Last week, Plugchieva, who was a Deputy Prime Minister for the European Funds in the previous cabinet led by Socialist PM, Sergey Stanishev, officially confirmed she is running to become the next Vice-President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

DSB made the request during a Monday press conference.

Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chair of DSB informed the request is made in connection with the cabinet's accusations that the previous government had concealed important correspondence from Brussels regarding Bulgaria's violations in the use of EU program funds.

“There are concrete individuals responsible about those letters being swept under the rug. Plugchieva as the Minister for EU Funds in the Stanishev Cabinet bears the full responsibility for this act,” Mitov is quoted as saying.

Mitov further pointed out that Boyko Borisov's stated support cannot be anything but political and would equal amnesty for violations already committed.

DSB, however, announced they would support the nominations of the new Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Nikolay Mladenov, and of Defense, Anyu Anev.

Also last week, Martin Dimitrov, leader of the other rightist party, the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF), which together with DSB forms the so-called Blue Coalition, stated UDF opposes the nomination of Meglena Plugchieva for the EBRD Vice-President post.
