Bulgaria’s Energy, Economy and Tourism Minister, Traicho Traikov, stated that Bulgaria may now withdraw its request for EUR 10 M in compensation if the Greek border blockade is totally lifted.
Traikov was speaking after Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov’s successful meeting with protesting Greek farmers after which the Kulata-Promahon border crossing was unblocked. He said that achieving a lasting solution to the protests of farmers from Greece was the work of the Greek authorities.
Traikov continued that “in any event, the consequences of the conflict should not affect our interests.” He added that the permanent lifting of the blockade may lead to the EUR 10 M compensation request by Bulgaria being withdrawn.
Bulgaria Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, requested the EUR 10 M on Tuesday and approached the Court of Justice of the European Communities in Luxembourg over the issue.
