Bulgaria: Details about Biggest Power Theft in CEZ History
The Prosecutor's Office and the Interior Ministry are continuing the investigation into the large theft of electricity in the Sofia village of Herakovo.
Bulgaria's energy regulator has reiterated its threats to strip Czech power utility CEZ of license should it fail to introduce monthly bills as of August 1.
In April the Czech utility company did not comply with last year's ruling of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission to end its three-month power bills by the end of March and was slapped a BGN 500 000 fine.
Following an appeal against that decision, the regulator extended the deadline for the introduction of monthly bills until the end of June.
CEZ, which supplies power to over 2 million households and companies in western Bulgaria, including the capital Sofia, refused to comply with that ruling either, arguing that the shift would mean more expenses and higher bills for the consumers.
According to the company it is not obliged to follow the orders of Bulgaria's energy watchdog because the Supreme Administrative Court has not come up with its decision.
It said it plans to introduce monthly bills as of December 1.
