Some EUR 430,5 M have been spent so far by the Bulgarian state in preparation for the construction of the country's second nuclear power plant at the Danube town of Belene.

The figure was made public Friday by the press service of the Ministry of Energy and Economy.

Of these, EUR 161 M have been spent for developing the technical project; EUR 78 M - for the clearing of the construction site; EUR 89,5 M for the purchase of long-term equipment; EUR 90 M have been spent for paying consultants - WorleyParsons, Deloitte, Paribas; and EUR 12 M - for paying off interest on a BNP Paribas loan.

Last week, Bulgaria's Finance Minister nominee, Simeon Djankov, declared that some BGN 500 M (EUR 250 M) must have been stolen from the money spent on preparing the construction of Belene, since similar procedures in other countries cost at most BGN 250 M (EUR 125 M).
