Bulgarian tennis star Magdalena Maleeva suffered a loss in Amelia Island, Florida, and has left the tournament.

The Bulgarian was outplayed by Nadezhda Petrova of Russia in the second round. Maleeva lost in straight sets 6-3 6-0.

In the first round, she had achieved a victory over Germany's Anna- Lena Groenefeld.

Maleeva's next challenge this year will be FedCup.

The Bulgarian competitor, aged 30, has already announced that she would put an end to her playing career in 2005.
