Bulgarian ice dance couple Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski, 2004 silver medallists, were ranked fourth following the compulsory dance at the World Figure Skating Championships in Moscow.
The Bulgarian skaters performed their "Midnight Blues", but the judges gave them 40,81 points. Defending champions Russians Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov were ranked first with 45,97 points, followed by the US pair Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto and Ukraine's Elena Grushchina and Ruslan Goncharov.
In an interview for the Eurosport channel Albena Denkova pointed out that they were ready to fight.
The battle will continue on Thursday with the original dance.
