The player of the Bulgarian national basketball team Georgi Mladenov was stabbed Saturday night following a match from the country's basketball championship.
The news was broken by a fan who called the host of a Bulgarian sports TV show.
Following the match of Mladenov's current club Spartak Evroins against his previous team Levski, the 41-year old basketball veteran quarrelled with Levski's masseur. In the scuffle that followed the two switched off the light and after it was on again, there was a knife wound on Mladenov's knee.
The story was told by Levski's player Boyko Mladenov who was a witness of the quarrel.
Mladenov was promptly transported to Sofia's emergency hospital Pirogov.
Police confirmed the information.
