Bulgaria: YouTube Collects Personal Data to Children Source: Twitter

23 US organizations blame YouTube and its owner Google for collecting children's personal data and using them to target certain ads according to the interests of consumers, news agencies said. This is illegal under US law.

Organizations for the protection of children's rights and digital rights lodged a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and insisted that an investigation be conducted. They claim that Google collects personal data of minors on YouTube, although this site is officially banned for persons under 13 years of age. A database is created with the location of the minors, the device from which they enter the Internet or their phone numbers. This is done without prior consent of the parents, the organizations say.

Their lawyers insist that such practices are in breach of a 1998 law prohibiting websites designed for children or known to be used by children to collect or use personal information without the consent of the parents.

YouTube has said that protecting children and their families is a priority.
