May Weather Rollercoaster: Bulgaria's Temperature Swings and Precipitation Patterns
As Bulgaria transitions into May, meteorologists predict a rollercoaster of temperatures, ranging from autumnal lows to summery highs across the country.
A meteorological station based on Musala peak in the Rila mountain has shut down on a temporary basis, the Bulgarian National Television confirmed on Monday.
The station at Musala, situated on the Balkan peninsula's highest peak (2925 m), provides data on an international level, but will not do so until the spring.
The Bulgarian Academy of Science told the BNT the reason is staff shortage.
Two people are needed who, if recruited and trained, can begin working there in November, under the toughest meteorological conditions.
A meteorologist at the station died, leaving the station understaffed, an academy official has explained.
Part of the equipment will be taken away from the station until the spring for the sake of better maintenance.
News was first spread by staff working on Musala, who posted on Facebook a picture of the station saying it would be closed down on a permanent basis.
