Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
Ludogorets Razgrad claimed its fifth consecutive championship title three rounds before the end of this year's edition of Bulgaria's top football division, the A Group.
With three rounds to go, Ludogorets is unchallenged at the top of the standing with 67 points, fourteen points ahead of runner-up Levski and twenty points ahead of third-placed Beroe.
Despite suffering a 1:2 defeat to Lokomotiv Plovdiv 1:2 last weekend, Ludogorets won the title after Levski lost to the same opponent 3:2 earlier this week.
On Wednesday, the reigning champion celebrated the new title with a 4:1 victory over Pirin Blagoevgrad.
The quality of the matches and the level of competition in the A Group was reduced in the past year after three top teams did not compete in it.
The licences of CSKA Sofia and Lokomotiv Sofia were revoked last year due to outstanding debts and the two teams were relegated to the amateur divisions.
Litex was relegated to the second division after its players left the pitch and abandoned a match against Levski at the end of last year.
With these developments, only nine teams were left to compete in the A Group in the second half of the season, with the competition for the title Ludogorets and Levski.
Ever since its promotion to the A Group in 2011, Ludogorets has won the championship title, which is unprecedented in the history of Bulgarian football.
In 2012, the club also won the Bulgarian Cup and the Bulgarian Supercup, achieving a treble in its opening season in the top division.
Ludogorets will be the Bulgarian representative in the Champions League, with the team starting from the second qualifying round.
Last year, the team from Razgrad disappointed with its European performance, being ousted from the second qualifying round by the Moldovan champion Milsami Orhei.
