From the beginning of the year until December 17, a total of 57 732 babies were born in Bulgaria, which represents a decrease of nearly 10 000 compared to the same period in 2014.
This is shown by figures of the health ministry's information system on births, daily Trud informs.
Since nearly seven months there have been indications that Bulgaria's population will register a negative growth rate.
The trend for births to decrease has been observed in the past thirty years with temporary peaks and drops occurring at certain periods of time.
Many young people continue to leave the country, the population is aging and as a result the number of people in reproductive age is decreasing.
Fewer women are willing to become mothers as Bulgarians are afraid of the economic situation and think that they will experience financial difficulties during the upbringing of their children.
The other factor contributing to the negative growth rate, is that modern Bulgarian women increasingly choose to get pregnant at a later age, which often leads to problems with conception and complications during the pregnancy.
According to specialists, the perfect age for women to give birth to their first two children is between the ages of twenty and thirty.
