Two mines have fallen on the territory of the Russian embassy compound in Damascus on Tuesday, TASS reported.
No one was injured in the shelling that took place in the morning hours, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
One of the projectiles hit a sports ground, the other one fell on the roof of a residential building.
A rally in support of the Russia nair strikes in Syria was held near the Russian embassy in Damascus on Tuesday, according to the embassy’s First Secretary Eldar Kurbanov. He told TASS the embassy had no information on whether the shelling targeted the rally.
"This is obviously a terrorist attack aimed at intimidating supporters of the fight against terrorism and preventing them from dominating in the fight against extremists," Lavrov commented, according to TASS.
