According to reports of Al Jazeera, based on an initial estimate of local authorities in Nepal, at least 108 people were killed in the earthquake and dozens were injured.
The eartquake, which struck at 11:56am local time, caused extensive damage to buildings.
The epicenter was located 80 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu.
The US Geological Survey said the quake measured 7.9 on the Richter scale and the epicenter was at a depth of 2 kilometers.
