Bulgarian actors speak in their mother tongue in humorous commercials of Romanian mobile operator on national TV in the northern Bulgarian neighbor.
The video series tells the story of a country named ''Belgravistan'' - an imaginary place where fountains are substituted by oil wells, all is made of gold and locals speak Bulgarian.
Apparently, the country was named after the central London neighborhood ''The Belgrave'', bTV news reported.
Meanwhile, the Romanian operator refused to comment on the idea behind the commercial.
''At fist we were like ''Shock, shock!,'' said Bulgarian actress playing in one of the TV ads, as she was putting real gold frosting on a chocolate cake. ''What do you mean 2 Euro? Think about us, we also have children that we need to raise. How can they possibly start their lives at such prices ? They need to learn everything in life is quite expensive. Life is lux, lux!''
All of the protagonists in the videos are Bulgarian actors who travelled to Romania for the roles. One of them was 80-year old Ivan Nestorov.
He impersonated a rich retired person named Abramovich. Dressed in a fur coat and with several gold chains around his neck, he was talking to his friend in a post office. Meanwhile, he received a special delivery - no other than the real Mona Lisa painting.
In the opinion of local advertising analyst Radislav Bimbalov, the Romanian mobile operator intentionally uses Bulgarian language in the videos.
Meanwhile, actors claimed that they did not know what they will be advertising the whole time they were shooting the videos, but they deemed the payment they received satisfactory - BGN 500.
''Why do they choose Bulgarian actors? Because we are cheap for them,'' Nestorov said.
The funny commercials are so popular in Romania, that actors have become celebrities there.
