Deadly Russian Assault on Odesa Sparks Mourning, Allegations of War Crimes
Tragedy struck the Ukrainian port city of Odesa as Russia unleashed a devastating assault, claiming the lives of five people and leaving over 30 injured
Russia is still pouring heavy arms into Eastern Ukraine despite the ceasefire agreement that is in place, a top NATO official has warned.
NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Gen Philip Breedlove announced Sunday during an event held in Brussels that Moscow is still propping up pro-Russian rebels in the Donbass region, both in military and economic terms.
In his words cited by Bloomberg, the alliance had evidence gathered by its joint intelligence unit in the UK.
“We continue to see disturbing elements of air defense, command and control, resupply and equipment coming across a completely porous border,” he is quoted as saying.
Both Kiev forces and pro-Russian rebels from self-proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic" and "Luhansk People's Republic" agreed to end hostilities and pull out all heavy weapons from the front-line and to make mutual concessions to wind down tensions.
But Breedlove believes the stance of Russia and its actions weeks after the deal was secured should reintroduced the option of the West arming Ukraine to its agenda.
He added "using all of our tools in reply" could be destabilizing, but "also, inaction could be destabilizing".
Officiall, Russia is not a side in the Donbass conflict, and consistently denies arming rebels.
The idea to send weapons to Ukraine has left EU politicians divided, with no common stance produced so far.
