Military Budget Disparity Between Ukraine and Russia Deepens Despite US Aid Package
The US Congress has finally approved a long-awaited aid package for Ukraine, totaling nearly 61 billion USD, including military assistance
US State Secretary John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met in Geneva on Monday, as the UN Human Rights Office released its latest report on the death toll in Ukraine.
According to the report, the number of people killed in eastern Ukraine since April 2014 surpassed the 6000 mark, despite the successive ceasefire agreements.
The two foreign ministers discussed the state of the latest ceasefire in Ukraine, which had been agreed in Minsk and entered into force in February.
Other topics of discussion included the murder of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme and the ongoing crisis in Syria, the Wall Street Journal reports.
US officials had called for “transparent, credible” investigation of the murder of Nemtsov, who was killed in Moscow on Friday.
This is the first meeting between the two after Kerry accused Russia of lying about its involvement in Ukraine last week.
