Warm Spring Weather Brings Danger to Bulgarian Mountains

Society » ENVIRONMENT | March 10, 2013, Sunday // 10:42

Weather Sunday is not favorable for hiking and skiing in Bulgaria's high mountains, announced Bulgaria's Mountain Rescue Service.

Temperatures are above zero at almost all locations an a strong melting process has started, increasing the risk of avalanches, especially in the afternoon.

Softer snow has also worsened conditions for skiing, said the rescuers.

In addition, it is raining at some locations, including Aleko in the Vitosha Mountain near Sofia.

It is possible that with a drop of temperatures, rain will turn to snow.

Hikers and skiers are asked to exercise the appropriate caution.
