Boris Johnson Is Referred to a Police Watchdog due to Conflict of Interest
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been accused in a conflict of interest when he was mayor of London.
Todor Kolarov, Chair of the Bulgarian Commission for Establishing Property Acquired through Criminal Activity, has called on Parliament to remove his colleague Krasimir Todorov.
Thursday last week the the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office opened pre-trial proceedings against Todorov over a false statement included in his 2009 conflict-of-interest declaration concerning participation in commercial company boards, Dnevnik daily reported.
Reminding of the removal of his predecessor Stoyan Kushlev, Kolev advised that "In order to avoid allegations that similar situations are handled differently, immediate steps must be taken by the body which appointed Mr. Todorov a member of the Commission."
He further stressed that the Chair of the Commission had no power over its members.
Krasimir Todorov was appointed a member of the Commission for Establishing Property Acquired through Criminal Activity from the parliamentary quota in the summer of 2010.
At the same time, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov appointed Stoyan Kushlev Chair of the Commission for a second term in office.
Kushlev was subsequently dismissed for incompatibility and was replaced by Todor Kolarov, a lawyer, former analyst at the World Bank and legal adviser at the American Embassy in Sofia.
Shortly after assuming office, Kolarov urged two members of the Commission, Krasimir Todorov and Nikolay Zhelev, to file their resignations.
The two were the only members to refuse to have their wages cut in compliance with a decision introducing a cap on bonuses based on time served.
The Commission has five members, the Chairperson included.
