Istanbul, which was Europe's cultural capital in 2010, will throw its weight behind Bulgaria's Sofia for the same status in 2019.

This was confirmed by the Governor of Istanbul Huseyin Avni Mutlu at a meeting with Bulgarian Finance Minister Simeon Djankov and Bulgarian Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov on Friday.

Istanbul is going to share its experience with Sofia for free, Mutlu has promised to Djankov and Rashidov who invited him to visit the Bulgarian capital.

Later on Friday Djankov met with Murat Yalcintas, head of the board of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce and local business representatives.
