Bulgarian Prime Minister Takes Action on 'Mama I Az' Hospital
Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev is poised to address critical issues plaguing children's healthcare in Bulgaria, particularly regarding the "Mama I Az" hospital.
Friends and colleagues of Bulgarian actor Andrey Batashov have decided to open a bank account, which would collect money for the expensive treatment of the actor, Bulgarian daily "24 Chassa" (24 Hours) informs.
Batashov was hospitalized two weeks ago on Saturday. Hours later, he was announced to be in a coma. According to the latest reports, multiple abscesses on the lungs were the cause of his serious condition.
On Thursday, doctors said that the actor was out of the coma. He was conscious, but remains being on systems. They also said they he recognized and interacted with his mother and his close friends.
"He is an extremely proud person, who would not accept someone paying his bills, even when his life depends on it," one of his friends said.
However, the Bulgarian charity TV show "Bailando" has decided to organize a special edition on Monday, which will open a special telephone line that will collect money for the actor's treatment.
Batashov's mother, Teodora, his wife Boryana, with whom he has filed for divorce, and popular Bulgarian musicians and politicians will be in the show's audience on Monday.
The participants in the singing/dancing competition "Bailando" will make their performances on Monday on songs like "Candle in the Wind," "The Show Must Go On" and"Shape of My Heart."
"This is an initiative of [the Bulgarian private] Nova TV and "24 Chassa." We are opening a DMS number, together with Andrey's relatives. The line will probably remain open after the two-hour show," said Rado Tushev, Editor-in-Chief of "Bailando."
Another friend of the actor, Bulgarian singer and composer, Mihail Belchev, has found another way to help Batashov.
"A friend of Andrey's invited me to participate in the show, but it is not for me. I am one of the initiators of the idea for creation of a bank account, to which everybody could contribute as much as they can," Belchev said.
In the meantime, speculation about the actor's disease continue. Doctors have stated that it was not possible for a person who was in a coma until recently to start walking immediately.
Batashov's relatives have also stated that his condition was very serious, but stable.
According to reports, the actor suffered a sepsis, caused by the abscesses on his lungs, which led to a general intoxication and deterioration of his liver and kidney functions.
"24 Chassa" has reported that doctors had stated that the sepsis does not allow any surgeries. They have added that the speculations about Batashov's need of liver transplantation were rushed and wrong. According to them, a biopsy would provide many answers for the actor's health condition.
In order to maintain the functions of his organs, doctors daily flow in Batashov's body specific solutions for intravenous feeding and powerful immune stimulants. This modern treatment costs several thousands BGN daily.
